MicroGrade Online Home > Tutorials > Marking Attendance

MicroGrade Online includes an attendance module to allow teachers to easily mark attendance for any of their classes. Additionally, administrators may add, delete and modify the attendance codes as required for their school's particular needs.

1. Click on the name of the class you wish to mark attendance for, listed under the My Classes header on the right-hand side of the page.

2. If it is not already enabled for this class, you will need to be sure you have enabled attendance logging. If you have done so already, you may skip to step 5. Otherwise, click the Class Settings link that appears on the right-hand side of the page.

3. The Class Settings page will appear. Click on the Edit Section link.

4. The Edit Section page will appear. Scroll to the bottom of the page and make sure that Log Attendance is set to "Yes", then click the Submit button to return to the class home page.

5. Click the Log Attendance link that appears on the right-hand side of the page under the class name header.

6. The Log Attendance page will appear. The default codes are Present, Absent, Tardy and Excused. (Administrators can edit these codes as necessary)

Attendance can be marked with the mouse only or with the mouse/keyboard.

If you are marking attendance with the mouse only, be sure to select the appropriate code by clicking the radio button next to the code you wish to use. You can switch to a different code by clicking that code's radio button.

To mark a date with the mouse, simply click on it with the mouse. The date's box will change to the color of the code you have marked it with and the code will appear in the center of the box.

If you want to mark attendance with the mouse/keyboard, simply move your cursor over the date you want to mark, then press the appropriate hotkey for the code you want to enter on your keyboard (e.g. P for Present). The code will be entered - you do not need to select the appropriate code first if you enter attendance this way.

If you want to mark all students with the same attendance code for a single day, click on the date at the top of the column for that day.

8. By default, MicroGrade Online will show the current week's meeting days. If you want to skip to the previous week or to the next week, simply click the arrows to the left and right.

9. When you are finished entering your attendance, click the Save button.
