If you've purchased MicroGrade 6.x, you will notice that administrative access is required to install and register the program successfully. Click here to learn how to successfully install and register MicroGrade as an administrator.

5. Why doesn't MicroGrade accept my serial number when I try to register? [Back To Top]

When registering MicroGrade, make sure that you have filled in the Name and Organization fields with at least 3 characters, in addition to entering your serial number. Once Name and Organization are filled in and the serial number is entered correctly, you should be able to successfully complete the registration process by clicking the OK button.

6. How does MicroGrade's new deactivation procedure work? [Back To Top]

MicroGrade 6.1.2 now includes the ability to deactivate an installation of the program in order to install it on a new computer. Click here to learn more about the new deactivation procedure.

7. How do I start a new class with the same students or assignments? [Back To Top]

  1. Start MicroGrade and open the class you want to copy information from
  2. Go to the File menu and click on Save As
  3. The Save As Options dialog will appear, with 3 option buttons displayed.
  4. Click the Option 2 button, then click the Save button. This will save a copy of the class that only includes your roster of students. Alternately, to save a copy of the class that includes only your categories and assignments, click the Option 3 button then click the Save button.
  5. A new screen will appear and prompt you to name the file and select a location to save in. Once you are ready, click the Save button. Your file should now be ready for use.
8. Why didn't MicroGrade come with a manual? [Back To Top]

The MicroGrade User's Guide is automatically installed into the MicroGrade folder on your computer. It is an Adobe Acrobat Reader (.pdf format) document. The Adobe Acrobat software is included on the MicroGrade CD as well. You may also download the MicroGrade User's Guide and Adobe Acrobat from our website.

9. How do I open a password-protected file if I forgot my password? [Back To Top]

Please contact Technical Support for assistance. Your registration will need to be verified before any information can be released.

10. How do I permanently delete old classes from MicroGrade? [Back To Top]

Windows:

  1. Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
  2. The My Computer window will appear. Double-click the icon labeled "Local Hard Disk (C:)"
  3. A new window will appear and display all the folders on your hard drive
  4. Locate the folder where your MicroGrade files are saved, and double-click on it
  5. Your MicroGrade files should now be displayed on screen.
  6. Right-click on a file you want to delete, and a menu will pop up.
  7. Select "Delete" from the menu by left-clicking on it
  8. You will be asked if you want to move the file to the Recycle Bin. Click Yes.
  9. To delete the file from the Recycle Bin, which will permanently delete the file from your computer, right-click the Recycle Bin icon on your desktop and select "Empty Recycle Bin".
Mac:
  1. Double-click the hard drive icon on your desktop
  2. The hard drive window will appear and display it's contents.
  3. Locate your MicroGrade folder and double-click on it.
  4. Your MicroGrade files should now be displayed on screen.
  5. To delete a file, click and drag it to the Trash.
  6. To delete the file from the Trash, which will permanently delete the file from your computer, click the Special menu and select "Empty Trash".

11. Can I set up MicroGrade to use a 4 point grade scale? [Back To Top]

12. Why are my students receiving inflated final grades like 108%, etc.? [Back To Top]

The most common cause of this issue is that a category has been incorrectly marked as an Extra Credit Category.

13. Will MicroGrade work under Windows Vista? [Back To Top]

MicroGrade version 6.0 and newer is compatible with Vista.

14. Is MicroGrade networkable? [Back To Top]

MicroGrade can be installed and used on a network server, but is not intended to be accessed by multiple users simultaneously. We recommend that the program be installed to each user's local machine, but MicroGrade class files may be stored and accessed on the network or the local machine.

15. Why does MicroGrade keep asking me to register when I start the program? [Back To Top]

Windows XP/2000:

Windows XP and 2000 users will need to verify that they have logged in as the administrator to register the program. Once the program has been registered by an administrator, all users including non-administrators should be able to use the program without being required to register each time. If this has been done and the problem persists, please contact Tech Support for further assistance.

Mac OS 9:

We have found that the most common cause of this issue is that the date and time is not set correctly on the computer that MicroGrade is installed on.

Mac OS X:

You will need to make sure that you are logged on as an administrator when installing MicroGrade. If MicroGrade is already installed, simply log on as the administrator and reinstall it to resolve this isssue.

17. How do I sort my roster by ID/Name/etc.? [Back To Top]

To sort your roster, click the drop-down menu in the top left-hand corner of the Roster window and select the sort order you wish to use from the list of options that appears.

18. How do I drop the lowest grade in a category? [Back To Top]

  1. Go to the Edit menu
  2. Click on Setup Categories
  3. The Setup Categories dialog will appear.
  4. Click on a category that you want to drop the lowest grade for
  5. On the right-hand side of the dialog, you should see a box labeled "Number of Low Scores To Drop". Type 1 into the box.
  6. Click OK to close the dialog.
Once you have done this, you should see that each student has had their lowest grade in that category dropped. Dropped scores will be indicated with a "d" mark next to the score.

19. (Windows Only) How can I make MicroGrade default to a specific folder when it starts? [Back To Top]

  1. Right-click the MicroGrade icon on your desktop or in your Start menu
  2. A menu will appear with several options listed. Left-click on the "Properties" option
  3. The Properties dialog will appear.
  4. In the Properties dialog, you should see a box labeled "Start In:"
  5. Type the name of the folder that you want to have MicroGrade start in. For example, if you want to have MicroGrade start in the My Documents folder on your C drive, you would type this: "C:\My Documents". Make sure that you include the quotes.
  6. Once you're finished, click the OK button. MicroGrade should now default to the folder you specified when it first starts.

20. Why can't I click the "Finished" button when using MicroGrade's Quick Start? [Back To Top]

Make sure that you have completed all 5 steps of the Quick Start. Each completed step will be indicated with a purple check mark in the list on the left. Once all steps are completed, the "Finished" button should be highlighted.

21. Why doesn't MicroGrade start up successfully on OS X? [Back To Top]

Some users have reported that MicroGrade on OS X installs successfully, but when they attempt to start the program, the computer simply displays the "spinning beachball" cursor and does not ever start the program successfully. This issue has been found to be caused by an incorrect date setting on the affected computer. Make sure that the date is set correctly before you start MicroGrade.

22. Why do I receive the message "Sorry, the operation could not be completed due to a system error: File Not Found" when I try to install MicroGrade on OS X? [Back To Top]

If you receive this error message, the most likely cause is that you need to repair your disk permissions. You will need to use the Disk Utility program to perform the "Repair Disk Permissions" function. The Disk Utility program can be found by opening the Applications folder, then locating the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder.
