Microsoft Excel includes the ability to save Excel documents as a text file that is comma or tab-delimited, allowing them to be imported into MicroGrade. If you have students or scores entered in Microsoft Excel that you would like to import into MicroGrade, click on either of the links below for more information about importing students or scores from Excel. Importing Students Into MicroGrade From Excel
1. In Excel, go to the File menu and click on Save As

2. The Save As dialog will appear. Click the Save As Type drop-down menu
and select Text (Tab delimited)(*.txt) from the list of options that appears.
Enter a name for your file and click the Save button to save your file.

3. Open your file in MicroGrade, then go to the Students menu and click on
Import Students > User Defined.
|

|
|
|
4. The Select A File of Students To Import dialog will appear. Locate your
import file that you created previously and click on it to select it, then click
the Open button to continue.

|
|
5. The Select Import Data File Format dialog will appear. Click the
Continue button to proceed.

|
6. The Specify Import Fields dialog will appear and display the first record
in your import file. At this point, you will need to specify each item of information
to be imported, such as the name and ID. You will only need to do this for the
first record shown on-screen, then MicroGrade will automatically import the rest
of the students based on your specifications.
6a. In this example, the first item to be specified is the student's last name. Make sure the student's last name is highlighted, then click the Import Fields drop-down menu and select Last Name from the list of options.

6b. Click on the student's first name, then select First Name from the
the Import Fields drop-down menu.
|
|
|
|
|
|
6c. Click on the student's ID number, then select ID from the
the Import Fields drop-down menu.
|
|
|
|
|
|
7. The above procedure can be performed for each of the fields you wish to
import, selecting the appropriate field type for each. When you are finished, you
should have something similar to the following screen. Click the OK button to
continue.

|
8. A message will appear asking if you want to replace the IDs being imported.
Click No when this appears.
|
|
|
|
|
|
9. The Import Students Status dialog will appear and display the
progress of the import and any errors encountered during the import process. When
the import completes, click the Finished button to proceed.

|
|
10. The Roster screen will appear and display the roster of students
you just imported.
|

Importing Scores Into MicroGrade From Excel
1. In Excel, go to the File menu and click on Save As

2. The Save As dialog will appear. Click the Save As Type drop-down menu
and select Text (Tab delimited)(*.txt) from the list of options that appears.
Enter a name for your file and click the Save button to save your file.

3. Open your file in MicroGrade, then go to the Scores menu and click on
Import Scores > User Defined.
|
|
|
|
|
|
4. The Get Assignment For Scores Import dialog will appear and list
the assignments in the class. Click the title of the assignment you wish to import
scores for.

|
|
5. The Select A File of Scores To Import dialog will appear. Locate your
import file that you created previously and click on it to select it, then click
the Open button to continue.

|
6. The Select Import Data File Format dialog will appear. Click the
Continue button to proceed.

|
7. The Specify Import Fields dialog will appear and display the first record
