MicroTest 6.3.1
Changes from version 6.3.0
April 22, 2004

New Features/Enhancements:

1. The major new feature in this version is OS X compatibility.

2. The Scale Graphic command in the Question menu now includes a checkbox named Scale Proportionally. When checked only one input box is shown and the graphic is scaled this percentage in width and height. Un-checking the box allows arbitrary scaling as before.

3. Some new menu commands were added and keyboard shortcuts were added to some existing commands to make it possible to select questions for a test using only the keyboard. The existing menu commands that had keyboard shortcuts added are: Chapter -> Next Chapter “=”, Chapter -> Previous Chapter “-“, and Select -> Displayed Question “/”. The new menu commands are in the Question Menu just below the Go To Question command. They are: Question -> Next Question “]”, and Question -> Prev Question “[“.

MicroTest 6.3.0
Changes from version 6.2.3
May 25, 2001

New Features/Enhancements:

1. A revised open dialog was created based on ideas from Goodheart. This incorporates both the quick start and experienced user options in a single dialog simplifying the way users interact with the program.

2. The free format question type was replaced with five new types, Essay (when converted, existing free form questions have this type), Short Answer, Fill in the Blank, Matching, and Identification. The old Matching or MA question was renamed Matching Question or MQ, ES, SA, and FB question behave just like the old free format question type. The new MA and ID question types can have a question number prefix and are normally used as questions linked to a figure. This provides a way to provide the type of matching question that has a question number on the test for each match. The ID type is for questions that have a diagram with call outs for items that are to be identified.

3. A new option was added to the print dialog that allows sections to be automatically created for each question type that is on the test. The size of the title for sections was increased from 15 to 19 characters to allow automatic sections to be named after the question type.

MicroTest 6.2.3
Changes from version 6.2.2
May 4, 2001

New Features/Enhancements:

1. The major new feature in this version is support for tables. A new menu named “Table” following the “Question” menu adds the interface to insert and edit tables. A document describing this and the following two new features is available separately.

2. A new item was added to the Question menu named “Color…” just below Alignment. This allows the color of text to be changed.

3. A new item was added to the Question menu named “Paragraph Format…” just below the new “Color…” item but with a separator before it. This allows paragraph indents, paragraph spacing, and line spacing to be changed.

4. The name of the help file for the Macintosh Professional version was changed to differentiate it from the publisher version. The publisher version help files are named “MicroTest III Help” and “MicroTest III Media”. The MT Pro help files are named “MicroTest Pro Help” and “MicroTest Pro Media”.

5. The Macintosh version was changed to make all site license versions network capable. This includes any version registered with a serial number that begins with “S”.

6. To accommodate the new web based testing and assessment system a change was made to the way WebTest processes figures that are not linked to any question. Previously such figures would never be uploaded since only figures linked to questions on the test would be included. Now in a chapter that has at least one question on the test unlinked figures will be uploaded. The existing WebTest only considers questions and figures that are linked to then so unlinked figures are ignored.

7. The new WebTest file now includes more information about figures. This includes whether the figure is strong or weak linked, and the Keep Order and the Suppress Leader attributes.

8. Support was added to allow the questions in a test to be written to a file in a format that allows them to be uploaded to WebCT. A new menu item “Write Test To WebCT…” was added to the file menu.

9. In the in-house version support was added to allow the questions in a test to be written to a file in a format that allows them to be uploaded to PageOUT. A new menu item “Write Test To PageOUT…” was added to the file menu.

10. A new button was added to the tool bar to save a modified test.

11. In the QuickTime version the ability to run on a machine without QuickTime installed was added. In addition, copy and paste of QuickTime items was implemented.

12. The WebCT export dialog was enhanced to allow the category to be the chapter title. Two options are provided: “Chapter Title / Chapter Number”, and “Chapter Title or Chapter Number”. If chapter 3 had a title of “Basic Math” then the first option would give a category of “Basic Math/3” and the second would give “Basic Math”. If chapter 3 had no title then both options would give a category of “3”. (5/25/01)

13. If either page header is set to print on only the first page and after printing the first page room for at least four lines isn’t available then a page break is introduced. This makes it simpler to create a test with instructions as the only thing on the first page. (12/4/01)

MicroTest 6.2.2
Changes from version 6.2.1
October 30, 2000

New Features/Enhancements:

1. The major new feature in this version is support for saving a test in RTF format.

2. In the demo versions a new question bank can be created. This change was made to be consistent with Quick Start, which allows a new question bank to be created.

3. A change was made to the Windows printer code in Views so that an error number is reported when it is not possible to connect to the printer. This will simplify support.

4. The default font for new questions, question numbers, and choice letters was changed from Courier/Courier New to Times/Times New Roman. The default font size was changed form 10 to 12.

MicroTest 6.2.1 Changes from version 6.1.9
August 14, 2000

New Features/Enhancements:

1. The major new feature in this version is the Quick Start.

2. Support for printing a student answer sheet that test takers can use to mark correct answers has been added. The old answer sheet is now referred to as the answer key. A new test header that prints only on the student answer sheet was added. The page and section headers can optionally be printed on the student answer sheet. As a result of this change once a question bank has been edited with version 6.2.1 it can no longer be opened with version 6.2.0 or earlier. The editing functions that cause this to occur are saving window arrangement, editing question bank information, changing preferences, and adding or deleting a chapter. Note that simply editing a question does not cause the bank to be unusable in older versions of the program.

3. When creating a WebTest pre-formatted questions are recognized and converted to HTML using the "pre" tag to preserve formatting. If the predominant font used in a question part is “Courier” or “Courier New” and the largest string of characters in any other font is no more than five characters then the "pre" tag is used.

4. There is no longer any need for the separately named VRF files for the MT Pro and MT Publisher versions. Both versions now use the file MT621.vrf.

5. The “Web Resources…” item is now included in the Help menu for all versions of MicroTest, not just the Pro version.

6. In the demo versions a new question bank can be created. This change was made to be consistent with Quick Start, which allows a new question bank to be created.
