Many of our users using Blackboard and MicroTest Pro have requested that we enhance MicroTest Pro’s data import and export functionality to simplify their test creation and administration tasks. We have responded to those requests by adding a new feature to MicroTest Pro that allows test questions to be exported in a format that can be uploaded to Blackboard.

MicroTest Pro's test creation abilities make it the ideal complement to Blackboard. To learn more about MicroTest Pro, click here.

Blackboard 6 is currently supported by MicroTest Pro.

The steps necessary to export data from MicroTest Pro to Blackboard are described below.

Exporting Questions From MicroTest Pro [Back To Top]

1. Click on the File menu and select Export Test To > Blackboard

2. The Write Test To Blackboard dialog will appear. You should see something similar to the following:

The Directory/Folder Name field specifies the folder that will be created to store your Blackboard export file on your computer in Step 3. We recommend that you select a folder name that you will be able to easily remember and find.

The Pool Title field specifies the title of the question pool that will be used when the questions are uploaded to Blackboard.

The Description field specifies a description of the question pool when it is uploaded to Blackboard.

The Feedback When A Question Is Answered fields specify the response that will be given when a student answers a question correctly or incorrectly. You may either enter a response manually or Blackboard can use the Explanation field that is included in each question if you like. Note that this requires that an explanation has been entered for each question, otherwise Blackboard will default to the response that you entered.

The Suppress Answer For Essay and Matching checkbox controls whether Blackboard will provide an answer for essay and matching questions. This is done because many question banks include extraneous information in the answer field, such as a page number.

3. When you have filled in each field, click the OK button to proceed. The "Choose Location For Blackboard Files" dialog will now appear. Note that the name you entered for "Directory/Folder Name" in Step 2 will be used to create a new folder containing your export files, so all you need to do here is select a location where you want that folder to be created. We recommend that you select your MicroTest program folder or the desktop so that you can find this folder easily. Choose a folder by clicking on it, then click the "Select Folder" button to continue.

4. You should now have saved your questions in a format that can be used by Blackboard. However, you will need to perform one more step to prepare your questions for upload to Blackboard. Locate the folder where you saved your questions and open it. You should see the folder containing your questions. Open this folder.

5. You should see the contents of the folder on your screen, which will look similar to the screenshot below. At this point, you will need to create a .zip file (compressed file) and add these files to it. A .zip file can be created using a program such as WinZip. Once the .zip file is created, you are ready to upload your questions to Blackboard.
