4. Why is the test printout jumbled or misaligned? (Windows) [Back To Top]

Your Windows system fonts may not be interacting correctly with MicroTest Pro. To correct this:

Windows 98/ME/NT/2000:

  1. Go to the Start menu
  2. Click on Settings > Control Panel
  3. The Control Panel window will appear. Double click the Display icon
  4. The Display Properties dialog will appear. Click on the Settings tab
  5. On the Settings tab, click the button labeled Advanced
  6. The Advanced dialog will appear. You should see a drop-down menu labeled "Font Size". Click on this menu and select "Small Fonts", then click OK to close all open dialogs and apply the changes.
  7. Windows should pop up a message asking you to restart your computer before the new settings take effect. Restart your computer, and once you have restarted, try printing your test again.

Windows XP:

  1. Go to the Start menu
  2. Click on Settings > Control Panel
  3. The Control Panel window will appear. Double click the Display icon
  4. The Display Properties dialog will appear. Click on the Settings tab
  5. On the Settings tab, click the Advanced button
  6. You should now see a drop-down menu labeled "DPI Size". It may have "Large Size" selected. If so, click the menu, select "Normal Size", then click OK.
  7. If a message appears stating that fonts are already on your computer and that file copying can be skipped, click Yes to continue.
  8. Windows should pop up a message asking you to restart your computer before the new settings take effect. Restart your computer, and once you have restarted, try printing again.

5. How do I add questions to an existing question bank? [Back To Top]

  1. Open the question bank you want to modify
  2. The Table of Contents window should display in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. Click on a chapter that you want to add questions to.
  3. You should see the Edit Questions window (the window at the bottom of the screen). If the Edit Questions window is not open, open it by selecting "Edit Questions" from the Window menu. Click anywhere in the Edit Questions window to make it the "active" window (it should light up).
  4. Any questions that you add will be added at the end of the chapter, after the last question. To skip to the end of the chapter and begin adding questions, click the "Go To Last Question" button in the Edit Questions window. This button should look like a blue triangle pointing to the left and touching a line, and should be the first button to the left of the "Go To" button.
  5. You should now be at the end of the chapter, on the last question in the chapter. To add a new blank question to the chapter, click the "Next Question" button. This button should be to the immediate left of the "Go To Last Question" button and will look like a blue triangle as well.
  6. You should now have a blank question template. To select which type of question you want to add (Multiple Choice, True/False, etc.), click on the "Question" menu and select the type you want from the menu.
  7. Once you have selected the type of question you want, you can start entering your question. You will need to fill in the question and the answer fields, but you may leave the "Exp." field blank (this stands for Explanation) if you wish.
  8. Once you are finished entering the question, click the "Save" button to save your question. You will automatically be taken to the next blank question template.

6. Is MicroTest Pro compatible with Windows XP? [Back To Top]

Yes, MicroTest Pro is compatible with Windows XP.

7. How do I move between fields in a question? [Back To Top]

You can use the Ctrl-Alt-Tab key combination to jump from one field to another within a question. The easiest way to do this is to hold down Ctrl and Alt, then press Tab to jump from one field to another.

8. How do I change the font on my test? [Back To Top]

  1. Go to the Edit menu
  2. Click on Question Layout > General Layout
  3. The General Layout dialog will appear.
  4. Click the button labeled "Change" under the heading "Question Font"
  5. Select the font you want to use, then click the OK buttons to close any open dialogs and apply the change.
9. How do I transfer my question bank to another computer? [Back To Top]

Depending on the size of your question bank, you can transfer it on a floppy disk, on a CD, zip disk or through email as an attachment. However, you will need to be sure that you copy both of the question bank files to the other computer. Each question bank consists of two files that need to be present in the same folder in order for the question bank to be usable by MicroTest Pro. These files are identified with a .1 extension and a .i extension, respectively. (e.g. Science.1 and Science.i). If both question bank files are not in the same folder, you will receive the error message "MicroTest Pro cannot process this question bank".

10. How do I combine questions from two or more question banks into a test? [Back To Top]

You can only use one question bank at a time to create a test, but you may import questions or chapters from other question banks into that question bank if you wish.
