Placement Testing

A university requires enrolling students to demonstrate proficiency in English, mathematics and critical thinking skills prior to program placement. Many students are working adults and requiring them to take exams on campus creates a hardship for students and scheduling problems for campus testing coordinators. To solve the problem, the university implemented WebTest to deliver placement tests at all 93 campuses worldwide. The university also provides students with access to the WebTest Study Center so that students can refresh their math and grammar skills prior to taking the placement exams.

Mathematics Tutorial

Coleman College is using WebTest as an anywhere-anytime tutoring system. Coleman found that a sizeable number of students had deficiencies in math and grammar. After-school tutoring was made available, but most students worked or lived too far away and were unable to attend. With WebTest, students can take practice tests and then go to the study center for online remediation. Students can study at their own pace in a relaxed environment knowing that faculty will not be judging their performance.

End-of-Course Exams

The University of Phoenix requires each student to complete a comprehensive end-of-program exam as a condition of graduation. WebTest delivers over 35 different exams depending on the student’s major. Previously, the test was administered on campus using paper and pencil and scanned answer sheets. Students were reluctant to have to take the test on campus and as a result the exams were not taken seriously. In addition, results couldn’t be mailed to students until the answer sheet was scanned.
